Introduction

HY-Plug was in Turkey for three days filled with meetings, conferences, and strategic discussions on the energy transition in the maritime sector. Between presentations, exchanges with stakeholders in the yachting and merchant marine industries, and new opportunities for collaboration, this trip confirmed the growing market opportunities for decarbonization solutions and alternative fuels.

Interventions at the heart of the sector's challenges

These three days were marked by several speeches and exchanges with maritime professionals.

To maximize networking opportunities, advance preparation allowed us to connect with many participants even before the events. This simple yet highly effective strategy fostered constructive exchanges before the conferences and continued discussions afterward.

New opportunities for collaboration

Professional events remain, first and foremost, places for people to meet.

As the discussions progressed, several industry players expressed interest in the expertise developed by HY.

-Plug, paving the way for potential collaborations in the coming months.

These exchanges confirm the importance of being present on the ground to understand market needs and identify high-potential projects.

MARE FORUM - Merchant Marine

One of the major lessons learned this week concerns the growing role of environmental regulations in the maritime industry.

Merchant marine actors, particularly brokers and operators involved in commercial transport, are now heavily impacted by new European regulations such as FuelEU Maritime and EU ETS.

These constraints reinforce the interest in alternative fuels and readily available solutions to reduce CO₂ emissions.

MARE FORUM - Yachting

Several discussions focused on HVO (Hydrotreated Vegetable Oil), a biofuel that significantly reduces emissions while being compatible with many existing engines.

This week has notably provided an opportunity to exchange ideas with several professionals facing concrete issues of supply and energy transition.

One observation is clear: the market is increasingly interested in these solutions, but many players are still discovering their ease of use and operational potential.

One of the highlights of the trip was the interest shown by several yachting professionals in decarbonization solutions.

Where these topics may have seemed complex or distant just a few years ago, they are now becoming concrete issues for manufacturers, shipowners and operators in the sector.

This development demonstrates a genuine awareness and a growing desire to integrate sustainable solutions into the projects of tomorrow.

Three days full of lessons learned

Beyond the conferences and professional meetings, this week in Turkey provided a better understanding of the challenges faced by the different segments of the maritime industry and highlighted the acceleration of discussions around the energy transition.

This encouraging momentum confirms that decarbonization is no longer just an ambition for the future, but a subject now at the heart of decisions in the maritime sector.
